On February 24, 2021, it was stated that when weather conditions allowed, a plaque would be placed on top of Mount Olympus in honor of the National Hero and Apostle of the Independence of Cuba, the poet, writer, translator, consul, humanist, intellectual and a universal human being, the patriot, anti-imperialist, revolutionary, and Cuban and Latin American soldier, José Julián Martí Pérez (1853-1895), who fell in combat for the independence of Cuba. On June 14, 2021, not without the company of a windy night snowfall that dressed Olympus in fine white peplo, like the rose that Martí grew "for the sincere friend", and also "for the cruel one who rips my heart out with I live ”, the Olympus was ascended for the third time to visit, select and propose a suitable, symbolic,“ Martian ”site, where to place the plaque. The site would be located facing the sunrise, for more symbolism in the Oropedio Plateau, near the Plateau of the Muses, in the visual set where the Mytikas peaks and Stefani peak --Trono de Zeus-- converge in the distance. , Tomb and Prophet Elijah, and the Gate of the Astros. Martí spoke and wrote about Greece, he loved it, translated about Greece and the Greeks, dedicated an appreciable part of his creative work to it, admired it culturally, and also in its struggles for independence from the occupying powers and empires that intervened and they invaded for centuries. And he spoke vastly about Olympus. A modest Greek-language book will soon be published on these issues in Athens, which will have 400 pages of text, thirteen chapters, two annexes, and a 40-page graphic chapter, with images of Greek sites mentioned by Martí. Therefore, in honor of José Martí, on behalf of the heroic people of Cuba, dedicated to the brother people of Greece and Olympus that the Apostle would mention so much in his works, on the occasion of the Day of National Rebellion that is celebrated tomorrow on the 26th of July, Cubans compatriots have just ascended and placed on the top of Olympus a metal plate that perpetuates the love of Martí and the Cubans towards the people of Greece and “the Greek”, and in particular towards Olympus, “tempered on high anvils , made to gods, from where it becomes strong for the struggles on earth ”. We have thanked those who made possible or helped in this noble purpose, compatriots and also Greek friends, who with so much love for Cuba and its people have joined anonymously, in a permanent and supportive way. However, they do not accept the expression "thank you", because they consider that loving and doing for the Homeland, for the heroic people of Cuba, is a duty that should not be thanked, that its fulfillment means honor and dignity, and as for the Spartans , “Doing one's duty is not appreciated. The duty is fulfilled ”. And there was this duty to Martí. It is recognized that the ascent to Mount Olympus even in good weather conditions is not easy, that it is physically demanding, it is usually risky, not without its dangers. Therefore it is advisable to do it in small groups. So the compatriots who have come up this time to place the plaque in honor of the National Hero José Martí and his love for Greece and Olympus, represented in their footsteps the entire Cuban people; also to the millions of people in the world who love and admire their resistance, their struggles, their spirit of solidarity, love and vocation for peace, in a gesture that further strengthens the ties of friendship between the peoples of Cuba - Latin America and the Caribbean - and Greece.
