FAO regional workshop with Cuban experts conducted in Barbados.

The sub regional representation of FAO held in Barbados a seminar-workshop three days to promote the development of the industry of cassava and other tubers in the Caribbean to which he invited Dr. Luis Ruiz Martinez and Yoel Beovides García, two experts INIVIT (Research Institute of Tropical Root Crops) Ministry of Agriculture of Cuba, who found the accumulated practices in this area and through five conferences shared the Cuban experience, in an event that served to identify several areas of collaboration for generalize good practice. The Cuban Ambassador reaffirmed his government's will to expand cooperation through a triangular scheme in which the countries of the region to benefit. Dr. Deep Ford, FAO Coordinator, and composed and Vermaran Extavour Vyjayanthi Lopez, executive team summoned various organizations and entities that make up the Regional Working Group for this project, including the Task Force Barbados, for visits Field, witness demonstrations of cassava products for human and animal consumption, and discuss the extensive experience gained by the Greater Antilles in the agricultural sphere, from the highest scientific development in plantation management and control Integrated disease.
As a result of collective analysis, the following were identified as possible areas of cooperation: exchange of germplasm to evaluate the best varieties to develop in each country, using the foliage of those tubers in the preparation of animal feed, the use of technology in managing of crops, the use of biological products and control laboratories diseases, evaluating crop production schemes to improve yields and public policy for the marketing of these products.
