FIDEL CASTROS 96TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS IN UGANDA

On the 13th of August, the Residence of the Ambassador of Cuba in Kampala was the scene of a function that brought together Ugandan friends to celebrate the life of Commander Fidel Castro.

The event started with the expression of deep condolences  in the aftermath of the unfortunate incident at the Matanzas Super tanker Base while hailing the dedication with which the Government together with the people rose up to the challenge.

The theme of the programme entitled “Fidel Castro in the new African generations”, guided the presentation and discussion of audio-visual materials on the life of Comrade Fidel from his childhood, professional and political training, his leadership of the revolutionary struggle, the programme of the Cuban Revolution and his relations with Africa.

The vibrant exchange by Ugandan graduates from Cuba and by the representatives of youth and student organizations in Kampala, preceded the speech by the Ambassador of Cuba, Tania Perez Xiques who acknowledged the demonstration of support and solidarity expressed over the preceding days and went on to underscore the historical responsibility   of the new African and Cuban generations in upholding the continuity of people-to people relations.

The keynote speech of the evening was delivered by General Muhozi Kainerugaba, Commander of Land Forces of Uganda but above all a young man passionate about the life and achievements of Fidel Castro Ruz as well as the historic generation of the Cuban revolution

At the end of the function the Fidel Castro Annual Lecture was inaugurated to commemorate his work and a cake was cut to celebrate the 96th birthday of the indisputable leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Among those who participated in the event were leaders from the Secretariat of the ruling National Resistance Movement, Members of Parliament from the Uganda Cuba Friendship Group, members of the Diplomatic Corps, leaders of the Pan African Movement as well as those from political and social organizations.

Also in attendance was Elizabeth Musazi, Uganda’s Ambassador-designate to Cuba
