All the people of Cuba, accompanied by personalities, illustrious world figures and friends of solidarity, celebrate today, August 13, 2020, the 94th anniversary of the birth of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
Fidel's example will forever remain in our hearts. For those of us who had the privilege of knowing him personally, we proudly remember his imposing figure, his slow speech and his desire to be more useful every day.
The Cuban Revolution, guided by Fidel, and with the thought of our National Hero, José Martí, represented true independence for our country, after living for little more than half of the 20th century under a mediated Republic, where the powerful dominated, under the tutelage of Yankee imperialism. As Fidel said on April 16, 1961 "For this Revolution of the humble, for the humble and for the humble, we are ready to give our lives."
Fidel was a student of the ideas of Marti and Marxism-Leninism and as such, he was always convinced that the people are the only ones who lead and govern in Cuba, key to the strength and successes of the Cuban Revolution.
We still remember clearly when Fidel stated that “The future of our motherland must necessarily be a future of men of science, it must be a future of men of thought, because it is precisely what we are sowing the most; what we are sowing the most are opportunities for intelligence; since a very considerable part of our people did not have access to culture, or science, a majority of our people.
We miss you Fidel.
