Fijian Foreign Minister reaffirms in meeting with Cuban Ambassador willing to expand bilateral relations

Suva, March 12- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Fiji, the Honorable Inia Seruiratu received this morning the Ambassador of Cuba Carlos Manuel Rojas Lago. The progress of bilateral relations and other topics of global interest were evaluated at the work meeting.
 

The also Minister of Defense and National Security appreciated as positive the progressive consolidation of the political dialogue between both countries, not only bilaterally but also at the headquarters of International Organizations. He highlighted the excellent results of the visit to Havana last October by the Prime Minister of Fiji, Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, while reiterating the willingness of his government to continue expanding ties with the Caribbean Island.
 

The Cuban diplomat, on his side, underscored the relevance of the cooperation actions developed in terms of training young Fijians as doctors and the performance of graduates in healthcare institutions in this country, as well as reiterating the willingness of Cuba to promote joint actions on other topics of interest such as biotechnology and confronting climate-change.
 

Both representatives exchanged views on the challenges faced by Small Island Developing States as a consequence of the deterioration of the climate and the need to share the experiences achieved in the protection of the environment. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Peter Emberson, Director of Multilateral Affairs and Oceans of the Fijian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
