Film "Cuba Libre" opens Latin America and Spain in Wellington Film Festival

Wellington, October 21, 2017. -With the screening of the film "Cuba Libre", by director Jorge L. Sanchez, was launched in Wellington the 16th edition of the Latin America and Spain Film Festival (LASFF).

Cuban Ambassador, Mario Alzugaray, introduced the movie, which reflects the relationship between two children who lived the end of Spanish colonial rule in Cuba and the arrival of the US occupation army.

The Cuban diplomat explained the interest in showing the New Zealand public this passage of the history of Cuba, depicting the origins of the conflict between his country and the United States. In his speech he expressed the demand of his people for the end of the US embargo and sanctions affecting his nation for more than half a century.

The event inauguration, which coincided with the Day of Cuban Culture, had a special Latin flavour, with amenities provided by Latin American and the Spanish embassies. Cuban rhythms by local musicians Rafael Ferrer and Carlos Navae made the crowd enjoy and dance after the film screening.

LASFF 2017 featured also films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. (Embacuba NZ)
