Helsinki, March 2, 2025.- Paulo FG, one of the most important influences in Cuban popular music in recent decades, has died. Paulo Fernández Gallo died on Saturday in a car accident on the Malecón in Havana. Finland played its own role in Paulito FG's career.
In 1989 he collaborated with Opus 13 led by Joaquín Betancourt and recorded an album containing mainly his own songs. This project marked Paulito's international debut, which began with performances at the winter carnival in Helsinki and took the artist on his first tours to Mexico.
After returning to Cuba, he founded the band Paulito FG y su Élite. The timba he represents became an important part of Cuban musical culture during the difficult years of the 1990s, and new Cuban dance music also became an international phenomenon.
