Santiago de Cuba, November 14, 2024.- The Cuban Historical Environment Museum located in this city, exhibits today the exhibition “It is good for the skier to ski”, a gift from the photographer Seija Ulkuniemi, from cold Finland to the hot land. Until the 18th, the photographic exhibition transports the viewer through the winter landscapes of the Lapland region in Finland, and expresses the contrasts between the light and dark that emerge from the faint incidence of the sun's rays, in the frozen forests.
Regarding her intentions with the exhibition in Santiago de Cuba, the Finnish artist declared to Prensa Latina that her objective is to achieve the contrast between the warm eastern climate and the refreshing visual effect provided by the frozen landscapes. She also stated that she hopes to satisfy the need of Cubans to know other environments, other ways of life different from the local climate and to transport them, metaphorically speaking, to the forests of Lapland where winter sculpts true works of visual art.
In parallel to the photos exhibited in the gallery “El Aljibe” of the Cuban Historical Environment Museum, Seija Ulkuniemi also exhibits her art at the Francisco Prat Puig Cultural Center, of the office of the Conservator of the City of Santiago de Cuba. The artist took the opportunity to congratulate a group of town criers who keep this tradition alive in this city, of whom she took photographs last year while they were singing their calls and those images are now part of a collateral exhibition at the Havana Biennial. Seija also recognized the people of Santiago de Cuba, because they have always been open to participating in their cultural projects, she admitted that close ties of friendship bind her to the city, in addition to the architecture, musical culture and local history.
