The Victoria de Girón brigade, from the Finland-Cuba Friendship Association, visits Las Tunas once more. Its members expressed their rejection to the Helms-Burton Act.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Finnish activists spoke at the headquarters of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) with Eugenio Ramos González, professor at the Provincial School of the Communist Party of Cuba; Eremis Tamayo, president of the Union of Jurists in the province; the university professor Julio Padilla; and Roberto Acosta, student of the Faculty of Law of the University of Las Tunas.

Eugenio Ramos explained to the delegation the objectives of the Helms-Burton: to internationalize and codify the laws of the blockade; intimidating and discouraging foreign direct investment and international trade; promote the subversion of internal order and overthrow the Cuban Government, which has been the most desired dream of U.S. administrations.

"Title III has the principle of 'protecting American properties here in Cuba,' which were nationalized with the revolutionary triumph on January 1, 1959. On May 2 of this year, it was activated by President Trump, allowing nationals of his country to establish judicial processes in American courts against any person or foreign entity that 'traffics in Cuba'," reiterated Ramos González.

Eeva Kokki, vice-president of the Finland-Cuba Friendship Association, said that the Finnish people are in total disagreement with the Law. We condemn the blockade and pass on to others the true intentions of the United States towards Cuba. We have reached a dialogue with the Finnish Parliament, which maintain its support to the Government and the people of this nation.

The activists of the Brigade are hard-working people who provide generous donations and volunteer work at the Mártires de Las Tunas pediatric hospital, where they are collaborating in the construction of the rest rooms for medical personnel this time.

The Finland-Cuba Friendship Association, which has already passed half a century of existence, is one of the oldest on the European continent and has maintained a sustained defense work in the international arena of the right of Cubans to build their own destiny. There are close ties of collaboration between the Association and Las Tunas, which not are only expressed in the direct contribution of its members to the improvement of the conditions of several social and cultural facilities, but also have contributed to explore the historical links between Finland and this eastern territory.
