New York, April 3rd, 2023.- First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, presented to United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Gueterres, the credential letters accreditting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
During the meeting right after the official ceremony, Peñalver expressed to Guterres the appreciation for the key management of the Secretariat, and Guterres himself, in the drafting process of the report on the economic, commercial and financial blockade of United States against Cuba, which is the foundation for the presentation of the resolution that has been adopted during three decades by the vast majority of the UN Assembly General.
The Cuban representative expressed Guterres the support of his country to the preparatory process of the Summit of the Future, an initiative led by the Secretary General, as well as with his positions and visions on the need to reform the international financial system.
In regards to Cuba´s Chairmanship of Group 77 and China, Peñalver thanked Guterres for the words of appreciation to Cuba and its leadershipo in the coordination of issues within this important group during the present year and delivered a letter from the Cuban minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, appointing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, who concludes his tour of duty as Permament Representative to UN, as Special Representative to coordinate Cuba´s Chairmanship.
Guterres conveyed a warm salutation to President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Army General Raúl Castro. He also congratulated both diplomats for their new responsibilities and assured the collaboration of the Secretariat and himmself to support the diverese processes of negotiations, diplomatic tasks and events that Cuba should coordinate and preside over during 2023 as Chairman of Group 77 and China.
Peñalver Portal was accompanied by Ambassador Pedroso Cuesta and First Secretary at the Cuban Mission, Martha García Hernández.
