Geneva, 10 April 2025. Ernesto Rodríguez Hernández, First Deputy Minister of Communications, participated as guest of honour at the event organised by the South Centre on the Global Digital Compact, data governance, and digital transformation, held at the headquarters of this prestigious institution.
The senior Cuban official delivered a lecture on Cuba’s experience in digital transformation. He highlighted that the country’s Economic and Social Development Programme up to 2030 includes, among its strategic sectors, telecommunications, information technologies, and increased connectivity to advance the digitalisation of Cuban society.
Digital transformation has been identified in Cuba as one of three fundamental pillars of governance, alongside innovation and social communication.
Comrade Ernesto Rodríguez also briefed the attendees on key tools approved in 2024, including the digital transformation policy, Cuba’s Digital Agenda, and the national strategy for the development of Artificial Intelligence.
The event was attended by the Director of the South Centre, Mr. Carlos Correa, officials from the institution, as well as representatives of the Centre’s member countries.
The First Deputy Minister of Communications leads the Cuban delegation to the 28th session of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development, taking place this week. Throughout his stay in Geneva, he has been carrying out a tight work agenda.
