Manuel Marrero, Cuba’s Minister of Tourism, reported that the 37th International Tourism Fair (FitCuba 2017), will beheld from May 3-6 in the eastern province of Holguín, while Germany will feature as guest country of honor.
In a post on the official Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) Facebook page, Marrero noted that the event will be dedicated to tourist excursions, one of the modalities promoted on the island, which received four million visitors last year.
FitCuba, the Cuban tourist industry’s most important annual event, is attended by international businesspeople, tour operators, and travel agents, eager to discover what the island has to offer and learn more about opportunities.
Such interest was evident in last year’s edition, the largest to date, with over 5,000 delegates from 59 nations.
According to Cuba’s National Office of Statistics and Information, by the end of the first half of the year, Germany was the number four emissary market of tourists to the island, with 125,438 visitors; representing a 44.8% increase as compared to the same period in 2015.
Meanwhile, 2016 also saw airlines Condor and Eurowings increase flights to the Caribbean island, reflecting Cuba’s popularity as a tourist destination among Germans.
