On November 14, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Yanet Stable Cardenas and Olga Dalmau Gonzalez, Consul of Cuba in Barbados, attended the official opening ceremony of the floating book fair “Logos Hope”. The vessel will stay in Barbados for about four weeks for the enjoyment of Barbadian nationals who enjoy the habit of reading.
The event was attended by government officials and Barbadian institutions, representatives of the media, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country and partners and sponsors who sponsored the inauguration of the “Logos Hope” book fair in Barbados. The keynote address was delivered by the Minister of State, Ministry of Education, Technology and Vocational Training of Barbados, Sandra Husbands.
The Logos Hope is the world's largest floating book fair. The ship travels to various ports around the world and has visited more than 100 countries offering more than five thousand different book titles. It has an exhibition of 610 m² and about one million books in several languages for the sale of a variety of quality literature at affordable prices.
It also organizes cultural events such as conferences, concerts, plays and workshops, donates books to orphanages and underprivileged schools, and promotes intercultural understanding.
It has a crew of more than 350 volunteers from over 65 different nationalities, all dedicated to the mission of sharing knowledge, help and hope.
The ship is not only a book fair, but also a platform for various outreach programs, such as community involvement, training and the provision of humanitarian aid in the places it visits. It also aims to promote and disseminate culture, evangelize, share hope and show love to people. It promotes intercultural understanding. The ship “Logos Hope” sails under the Maltese flag, but is operated by the German charitable organization GBA Ships (Gute Bücher für Alle/Good Books for All).
