The Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro Luis Despaigne González, was received by Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana, in the meeting room attached to her office in that Ministry.
The Cuban Ambassador, who gave the Minister a message of gratitude from his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, for her message of solidarity for the devastating effects of Hurricane Irma against Cuba, highlighted during the meeting the commitment of Cuba with the Ghanaian people and the will to expand the bilateral cooperation sectors.
Ghanaian Foreign Minister, welcomed the possibility of receiving the Ambassador of Cuba, and reaffirmed the principled position of Ghana against the economic, commercial and financial blockade suffered by the Cuban people for more than fifty years.
Ms. Ayorkor Botchwey emphasized that cooperation with Cuba has been very beneficial for her country, for which it has represented in the training of qualified personnel and for the medical care received by Ghanaian citizens provided by Cuban health personnel. She also reiterated the interest of the country's President, Nana Akufo-Addo, to establish a biolarvicide factory in Ghana on a subregional basis, with Cuban cooperation.
The Foreign Minister was accompanied by Mr. Aikins Abrodwa, Deputy Director of Americas Bureau, and other officials from the Foreign Ministry. The Cuban Ambassador was accompanied by the First Secretary of the Embassy, Julio César Sánchez Martínez and the Specialist Raisa Burón Anglada.
