Foreign Ministries of Cuba and Ireland hold bilateral talks.

Dublin October 1, 2018. Presided by Niall Burgess, Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Ana Teresita Gonzalez Fraga, Cuban vice Minister of foreign affairs, a session of bilateral talks was held in the afternoon of todayin an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding, which characterizes relations between Ireland and Cuba.

As part of the agenda, both parties exchanged information on the course of bilateral relations and actions to strengthen the collaboration links between both countries in the most varied sectors possible.

Among the various current issues addressed by each party was the broad process of popular discussion that takes place in Cuba around the text of the new Constitution that will be submitted to a referendum in February 2019. For its part, the Irish diplomatic representation updated its Cuban counterparts on the progress of the negotiation process around Brexit and its special impact for Ireland.

The Cuban vice chancellor had the opportunity to inform her counterpart about the content of the report presented by Cuba and that it describes the historic and recent serious consequences on the Cuban economy and the daily life of our people infringed by the policy of economic and commercial, financial blockade that for six decades the United States Government has imposed and that the Trump Administration has worked to reinforce with complementary sanctions. Gonzalez Fraga informed that the Government of Cuba will present for the twenty-seventh time to the consideration of the General Assembly of the United Nations the draft resolution by means of which the international community, by an overwhelming majority, has demanded its removal. While expressing appreciation to the Government of Ireland for the sustained support to this claim, it ratified the aspiration of our people and Government to see this resolution passed once again on October 31, as a clear message to the Trump government that this unfair policy must cease.
