Dili, February 13, 2026. In the capital of Timor-Leste, the leader of the FRETILIN Opposition Party and former government official, Mari Alkatiri, met with the head of diplomatic mission, Alina Aldama, who was accompanied by Assistant Antonito Amaral.
During this meeting, the Cuban diplomat provided an update on the current situation of the Cuban people, as a consequence of the intensification of the US government's blockade, imposed for more than 60 years. This latest measure represents an escalation of hostile aggression against Cuba's firm stance in defense of the Cuban Revolution, implemented through President Donald Trump's executive order. She reiterated that Timor-Leste has always stood by Cuba and has supported the lifting of the blockade, an inhumane measure incompatible with the principles of international law. The Timorese leader, who enjoys prestige, recognition, and respect both nationally and internationally, expressed his disagreement with everything happening in the lives of the Cuban people at this time and condemned the threats to national security. He also referred to the unacceptable kidnapping of Venezuela's President-elect, Nicolás Maduro, and First Lady Cilia Flores.
