Kingston, Jamaica, 28 July 2019. On the evening of July 27, a political-cultural event took place in this city to commemorate the 66th Anniversary of the assaults on the “Moncada” barracks, in Santiago de Cuba, and the “Carlos Manuel de Céspedes”, in Bayamo.
The event –sponsored by the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association, the Association of Graduates from Cuban Colleges and the Antonio Maceo Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica– was attended by more than 120 people representing the Diplomatic Corps, the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica and solidarity organizations with Cuba.
The opening remarks were given by Mr. Ulises Calvo, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Republic of Cuba in Jamaica, who evoked the sacrifice of the youth of the Centennial Generation and ratified the commitment of the current generation with the Homeland, the Revolution, Socialism as well as Cuba’s Solidarity with the sister peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean . The Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua, H.E Ms. Briggett Budier; the Second Head of Mission of the Republic of Kenya in Cuba, concurrent in Jamaica, Mr. Yabesh O Monari; the Venezuelan diplomat Mrs. Luisa Gutiérrez, who was until recently Charge d'Affaires of that South American nation in Jamaica; the president of the Cuba-Jamaica Friendship Association, Mr. Trevor Brown; the President of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica, Mrs. Damaris Hernández; and the host of the activity, Dr. Neville Graham, who was one of the first Jamaican graduates of Medicine in Cuba.
The Venezuelan singer Mr. Luis Felipe Bellorín and the Jamaican troubadour "Eloy Elad" were the stars of the cultural section of the activity. Furthermore, attendees enjoyed Cuban food, drink and music.
