Friends of Cuba in Ghana ratify their rejection to the blockade during a tribute to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

The Ambassador of Cuba to Ghana, Pedro Luis Despaigne González led the Cuban representation that participated in the Commemorative Day in honor of the 111th birthday anniversary of the founding father of the Ghanaian independence and its first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The activities were convened by the Socialist Forum of Ghana (SFG) and the Convention People’s Party (CPP). In the remembrance activities for the Pan-African leader, the following participated: the Secretary General of the SFG, Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr; the founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe; the presidential candidate for the CPP, Dr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet; members of the CPP national leadership, among them, the Chairperson and Leader, Mrs. Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah; the General Secretary, Mrs. Nana Yaa Akyepim Jantuah, and the First Vice Chairman and Leader, Mr. Onsy Kwame Nkrumah.

The speakers, especially Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr. and Dr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, expressed their admiration for Cuba and its people, which they pointed out that it faces a blockade of more than six decades, and even so it has not renounced solidarity with the African peoples and with Ghana in particular.  They also recognized the presence of Cuban Health personnel in the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the message of solidarity sent by the Embassy, ​​on the occasion of that date, it was highlighted that next September 27, the sixtieth anniversary of the meeting between the President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and the then Prime Minister of the Revolutionary Government of Cuba, Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro held at the Theresa Hotel in the African-American neighborhood of Harlem, in New York will be celebrated. In the message, Ghana and its people were thanked for their solidarity with Cuba in the fight against the blockade. (Embacuba Ghana)
