Oslo, July 30, 2025. The denunciation of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the US against Cuba for more than 60 years and the call for its lifting were a common denominator in the speeches made in the rally convened by the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association at Eidsvoll Square in this city, on the occasion of July 26, Cuba´s National Rebellion Day.
Syver Kleve Kolstad, Secretary General of the Red Youth, pointed out that the blockade is due to the fact that the US wants to destroy any country that stands in the way of its global hegemony. It is about the United States still being bitter that it can no longer exploit Cuba's natural resources, as it did before the triumph of the Revolution in 1959.
The youth leader invited people to reflect on how much Cuba could have achieved without the financial damage caused by the US blockade over all these years.
“The fight against the blockade is not about the government. It's about the Cuban people! It's about them getting the medicine and food they need. It is simply about Cubans having the same opportunities as everyone else!”, he noted.
For his part, Paulius Eidukas, Oslo and Akershus district leader of the Communist Party of Norway (NKP) and the Vice President of the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association, denounced in his speech that the US illegal blockade denies Cuban people their basic human rights, denies development and investment opportunities, denies international trade and travel, and denies their right to exercise their sovereignty. He also highlighted that the blockade, as well as the inclusion of Cuba in the list of States that the U.S. considers to be so-called sponsors of terrorism, is a violation of international law.
Paulius stated that the US sanctions Cuba not because it is a failed State, but because it is an exemplary State. “The United States does not fear a country that lacks democracy or violates human rights, but rather fears a country that demonstrates to its people and the world what true democracy looks like and that defends human rights”, he stressed.
