Uganda, August 25, 2017.- Nearly a hundred members of the Solidarity Movement (Pan-African Movement and Uganda-Cuba Friendship Association), students of Kyambogo University and other universities in the country, as well as officials of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Kampala and other friends of Cuba, met yesterday afternoon in the conference room of the Business Management Faculty of the University of Kyambogo, where they paid tribute to the eternal Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, on the occasion of his birthday on August 13. The event was presided over by the Chairperson of the Pan-African Movement (Uganda Chapter) and the Uganda-Cuba Friendship Association, Daniel Rugarama, who in a brief summary highlighted the struggle of the Cuban people to lift the blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba for more than fifty years and the unshakable solidarity of the island with the peoples of Africa, under the leadership of comrade Fidel. Rugarama and others present at the ceremony demanded the immediate and unconditional end of the unjust and illegal economic, commercial and financial siege that continues to cause heavy damages to the Cuban people. As part of the emotional meeting, prominent Ugandan scholar Professor Kajabagu Karusoke gave a keynote lecture on the "Legacy of Fidel Castro in Africa", followed by a rich and fruitful exchange on the fruitful life and work of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution. Upon closing the event, Antonio Pubillones, Cuba's ambassador to the African country, emphasized in Fidel's vocation for dignity, social justice, independence and sovereignty of the oppressed, as well as in his profound humanist and solidary spirit. He also emphasized that Cuba's extraordinary contribution to the African continent, both civil and military, owes its origins to the thoughts of Commander-in-Chief Fidel, the main promoter of Cuban solidarity with the peoples of the world.
