Auckland, February 3rd , 2019. During a presentation given by the Ambassador of Cuba, Mr. Mario Alzugaray, in which he talked about the present situation in Cuba, members of the Friendship Society in this city expressed their interest and support to the process of constitutional reform that is taking place on the island.
During the meeting they also exchanged on the relations between Cuba and the United States, emphasizing on the impact of the blockade and the most recent decision of the US President to suspend the title III of the Helms Burton Act for only 45 days. This decision is unprecedented and constitutes a political blackmail and an irresponsible hostility to tighten the economic war against Cuba.
As expected, the public expressed great interest in knowing about the situation in Latin America and the Caribbean, especially related to the attempted coup that has been implemented against the Bolivarian government of Venezuela. In this regard, the Cuban diplomat ratified Cuban support to Venezuela and condemned the increasing danger of a US military intervention, as a demand of an opposition that doesn’t have the necessary support in Venezuela itself to propitiate its persistent desire to overthrow President Maduro.
The members of the Association also shared their concern for the damages caused by the tornado that recently hit Havana and agreed to coordinate activities to raise funds for the recovery process. (Embacuba NZ).
