In an emotional ceremony, held at the Cuban Embassy in Greece, in the presence of representatives of different institutions and the solidarity movement with Cuba, the “Friendship” Medal was awarded to the dear and supportive friend of the Cuban people, Velissarios Kossivakis. The decision was made in recognition of his tireless work and contribution to strengthening the ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation with the Cuban people and his outstanding participation in actions in defense of the Revolution and denunciation of aggressions against Cuba.
This distinction, which was instituted since 1979, is granted at the proposal of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People (ICAP), and is granted by the President of the Republic of Cuba to citizens, organizations or institutions, Cuban or foreign, that individually or collectively, they stand out in activities aimed at achieving the construction of a more just society and strengthening the ties of fraternal friendship, cooperation and mutual aid between peoples.
In his words, the Cuban Ambassador highlighted the outstanding and tireless work of Kossivakis against the blockade and his various initiatives, among which stands out the proposal he promoted to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Cuban doctors for their extraordinary and human collaboration with the people of dozens of countries in the world.
With brief but moving words, Velissarios thanked the tribute and ratified, once again, his love for Cuba and his feelings of friendship and solidarity towards his people and his Revolution.
