Friendship Society in Dunedin condemns aggressive US policy against Cuba

Dunedin, July 18th, 2019. Friends of Cuba in this city of New Zealand ratified their condemnation of the escalation in the US economic war against Cuba and restated their solidarity with the people of the Caribbean island.

These expressions of support took place within the framework of a meeting with the Cuban ambassador, Mario Alzugaray, who visited the southern New Zealand city as part of a program that had as its focus the inauguration of the exhibition of photographs “Cuba through Kiwi eyes ”, which will remain for two weeks at the Business School of the University of Otago.

During the meeting, both parties exchanged on the current state of relations between Cuba and the United States, the vision of our country in relation to the situation in Latin America and other issues of the international agenda and the bilateral sphere, highlighting the interest in promoting closer ties between Cuba and New Zealand.

Last May, Jen Olsen, a member of the Cuba Friendship Society in Dunedin, sent a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Winston Peters, requesting the support of the New Zealand government to the statement made by the Association in the South Island, rejecting the escalation in the US economic war against Cuba. In his response to Jen Olsen, the Kiwi Foreign Minister ratified his government's opposition to the US embargo, expressing its lifting will be welcomed, as would be all steps towards normalization.
