Wellington. – As part of her visit to New Zealand, Leima Martínez Freire, director of Asia and Oceania at the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP for its Spanish acronym), convened a meeting with members of the Cuba Friendship Society in Wellington and exchanged on diverse topics, such as Cuban current affairs, its foreign policy and other international matters.
Leima restated Cuba's position in relation to the new aggressive attitude of the United States towards Cuba, whose main objective is to intensify the economic and financial blockade that Washington has imposed on the island for 60 years. Also confirmed the strong and unwavering support from Cuba to the Venezuelan people and the Bolivarian Revolution.
Leima offered an update on the main events and activities that ICAP will be carrying out in the coming months, such as the "XIV May Day International Volunteer Work Brigade in Solidarity with Cuba" from April 22nd through May 5th 2019; and the Regional Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba that will be held in Nepal from July 26th to 28th.
The occasion was also a great opportunity to examine actions and strategies to confront the mainstream media, traditionally at the service of powerful sectors in the United States and other Western powers.
The attendees echoed their rejection and condemnation of the US blockade and ratified their solidarity with Cuba. There was also great interest in the promulgation of the new Constitution, approved in the referendum on February 24 and the updating of the Cuban economic model (Embacuba NZ).
