Front Line Socialist Party Sri Lanka Condemns U.S. Decision to Incarcerate Migrants at Guantanamo Naval Base

The Front Line Socialist Party of Sri Lanka strongly condemns the decision of the United States government to imprison thousands of migrants detaining at the Guantánamo Naval Base. This decision has been recently announced by President Donald Trump. It is a manifestation of the oppressive and exploitative nature of U.S. foreign and immigration policies, which are clearly against the humanity.
Many of these migrants are victims of the devastating economic and social interventions of the United States, which created economic instability, political unrest, and social destruction of the respective countries. The U.S. has a long-standing practice of interfering with the internal affairs of sovereign nations, exacerbating socio-economic hardships that compel people to migrate for their survival. However, through exploitation of the labor of migrants, the U.S. has become the largest capitalist economy of the world.
The decision to detain migrants at Guantánamo is not only a violation of human rights but also violation of Cuban territory. The Guantánamo Naval Base is forcefully occupied by under U.S. military against the will of the Cuban people. This base has long been internationally condemned for its role as a site of torture and indefinite detention, where individuals have been held for decades without trial or due process. Utilizing this illegal enclave for further human rights violations will only heighten insecurity and risk in the region, with potential consequences that could threaten peace and stability.
The Frontline Socialist Party Sri Lanka firmly stands against this cruel and unjust policy. If the U.S. government does not want to accept migrants, it should not continue to exploit and destabilize their countries of origin. We demand that the United States:
1. Call off its decision to imprison migrants at Guantánamo and instead implement humane and just immigration policies that respect the dignity and rights of all individuals.
2. Immediately withdraw from the Guantánamo Naval Base and return the territory to Cuba, as it rightfully belongs to the Cuban people.
3. End its exploitative economic and foreign policies that pave the way for forced migration.
We call upon the international community, human rights organizations, and all progressive forces to stand in solidarity with the affected migrants and defeat US imperialism.
