Statement of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association
In the best tradition of Josef Goebbels, propaganda minister of Hitler’s Third Reich, steps Marco Rubio US Secretary of State and adherent to the Goebells doctrine which states, that ‘A lie told once remains a lie but told a thousand times becomes the truth’.
As how without providing one shred of evidence, he trots out the weaponized position, that ‘Cuba is on a list of countries that do not fully cooperate with anti-terrorism.?
A position which fully contradicts the conclusion of the former Biden administration assessment a mere year ago, which removed our sister country from this arbitrary and politically contrived list, that in the same breath undermines the competence of the US agencies, charged with the responsibility of gathering such intelligences, in order to make that determination.
Rubio, the top US diplomat and of Cuban origin, is among the most virulent critic of the revolution led by Fidel and also seems to suffer from selective amnesia, given the more than century-old campaigns of terror unleashed by the US government on us people of the global south, with its current total complicity of apartheid Israel’s genocidal campaign of terror and ethnic cleansing, through bombing and starvation of the courageous Palestinian people, as one such marker.
Additionally, like other servants of the US empire Rubio and the current occupier of the White House, is deeply frustrated regarding their efforts at breaking the will and resistance of the Cuban people, in standing up and building the kind of society, that has made our sister country the ‘beacon of hope’, that a better and different world is indeed possible and necessary.
A frustration that is rooted in resolution 499 of the US state department of April 1960, a mere 16 months following the triumph of the Cuban revolution over the US-backed despotic regime of Fulgencio Batista. Armed with the presidential seal of approval of Dwight Eisenhower, and faced with a determined population led by the historic leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel, to take their destiny in their own hands, the resolution noted in part. ’The only forseeable means of alienating internal support is through disenchantment based on economic dissatisfaction and hardships… every possible means should be undertaken promptly to weaken the economic life of Cuba…a line of action that makes the greatest inroads in denying money and supplies to Cuba to decrease monetary and real wages to bring about hunger, desperation and the overthrow of the government’.
In the traditions of the Mambises, our brothers and sisters in the homeland of Marti, Fidel, Raul and Diaz Canel can continue to count on the unconditional support of their Jamaican colleagues, as the future belongs to us who struggle for a better world.
