New York, October 16th, 2023.- The Group of 77 and China expressed its deep concern at the growing deterioration of the economic and social conditions of the Palestinian people as a result of Israel's illegal practices, including, inter alia, the continued colonization of Palestinian lands.
This was stated by Ambassador Yusnier Romero Puentes, Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, who spoke on behalf of the Group of 77 and China during the debate of the Second Commission of the General Assembly.
Romero Puentes demanded that Israel put a complete and immediate end to the expansion of settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.
It also reiterated the inalienable right of the Palestinian people and the people of the occupied Syrian Golan to their natural resources, including land, water and energy resources, and demanded that Israel cease exploiting, damaging, destroying, depleting or endangering those resources.
The Cuban diplomat reiterated the Group of 77 and China's call on the international community to assume its responsibility to provide protection to the Palestinian people, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions, and to pressure Israel to end its repeated attacks on innocent civilians and infrastructure.
He also stressed the need for urgent mobilization and the deployment of multilateral initiatives to preserve the prospects of reaching a just and lasting solution for the people of Palestine.
