The Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro Luis Despaigne González, received the Executive Director of the Ghana´s National Commission on Culture, Mrs. Janet Edna Nyame, who paid a visit to the Cuban Embassy accompanied by the Deputy Director of Program, Ms. Bernice Deh-Kumah, and the Principal Secretary, Mrs. Mildred Ashley.
Ms. Nyame explained that the institution she directs has the purpose of promoting the cultural manifestations of the diverse population groups that coexist in Ghana. She also stressed that as part of that Project, a gender agenda is promoted. She also spoke in favor of strengthening the exchange with Cuba in the sphere of creative arts, within which traditional foods, costumes, handicrafts, dance, music and other manifestations of popular culture are contained. Another topic of interest for the visitors was to know about the Cuban experience in the preservation of the historical-cultural heritage.
The visitors highlighted the positive impact for Ghana of young Ghanaians who were trained in Cuba, and the presence of Cuban doctors, who have worked in the ten regions of that country.
The Cuban Ambassador confirmed the will to strengthen cultural ties between both countries, based on the Cultural Agreement signed in 2008 and which remains in force.
Ms. Janet Edna Nyame, who is also the General Secretary of the Ghanaian Association of the United Nations, expressed her desire to return to visit Cuba, where she had once been.
The First Secretary of the Embassy, Julio César Sánchez, was also present at the meeting.
