Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (Ghana) (TUC), presented an Certificate of Appreciation to the Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro Luis Despaigne González in recognition of his efforts towards strengthening the cooperation between workers of both countries. The presentation took place at the TUC´s headquarters during the Steering Committee session, with the presence of the main leaders of the 28 unions that make it up.
The President of the TUC-Ghana, Alexander Nyarko-Opoku, recalled the fundamental milestones of the strengthened relations between the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the Central Workers´ Union of Cuba (CTC) and the Cuban embassy in Ghana, with the Ghanaian trade union center since 2016; including the first visit made by the Cuban Ambassador to the then newly elected Executive Committee in September 2016, the first participation of TUC (Ghana) in the International Brigade of Solidarity with Cuba convened by ICAP in 2017, the increase in the participation of the Ghanaian brigadistas in later years, the participation of the Cuban embassy in the celebration of the May Day in Ghana, the messages of solidarity exchanged, and the solidarity support provided by the Ghanaian workers in favor of the elimination of the unjust blockade exercised by the United States against the Cuban people.
The Cuban Ambassador thanked the recognition received and said that it reflected the collective work developed by various colleagues, both from the Cuban Diplomatic Mission and from Cuba. He also recalled several events that marked the relationship with TUC (Ghana) and highlighted the importance of sustaining and increasing existing ties.
Also present among the main leaders of the TUC (Ghana) were the Vice Chairperson, Philomena Aba Sampson and the Deputy Secretary General, Joshua Ansah. The Cuban Ambassador was accompanied by some members of the staff of the Diplomatic Mission. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba Ghana)
