The Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro Luis Despaigne González participated in an exchange with representatives of the Trades Union Congress Ghana (TUC), the umbrella trade union organization in the country, who will travel to Cuba to join the 14th edition of the May Day International Volunteer Work Brigade in Solidarity with Cuba.
In the fraternal meeting, the TUC Deputy Secretary General, comrade Joshua Ansah highlighted the increase in the number of Ghanaian participants in the programs organized in Cuba by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) is another expression of the ties of the TUC with Cuba.
The Cuban Ambassador updated the “brigadistas” on the Cuban news, including the strengthening of the United States blockade against the Cuban people, the importance of relations between the Cuban and Ghanaian peoples, and about the celebration in the current year of the 60th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries. He also thanked the invitations received from the TUC to participate again in the celebration in Ghana on May Day, for the third consecutive time.
They also used the floor, the First Vice President of the organization, comrade Alexander Nyarko-Opoku, and the Secretary General of the Union of Teachers and Workers of Education (TEWU), comrade Augustine Saakur-Karbo, who were part of the international brigades in the years 2017 and 2018, respectively.
Both union leaders emphasized the exceptionality of the May Day parade in Havana, and recommended to the next “brigadistas” to enjoy the program and especially to learn from the experience. The two recognized that for them Cuba represented an unforgettable experience.
Subsequently, the Cuban Ambassador, the First Vice President of the TUC, and the Secretary General of TEWU responded to a set of questions from the brigade members, and again recommended that they observe the Cuban reality.
The Ambassador thanked the TUC for its solidarity with Cuba and promised to exchange with the “brigadistas” on their return from the largest of the Antilles, as has already become traditional. The First Secretary, Julio César Sánchez, was also present.
