The Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro Luis Despaigne González, received a delegation of the Ghana Union of Professional Students (GUPS), headed by its National President, Bismark Gyamphy. The meeting was held at the Cuban Embassy.
During the exchange of ideas the Cuban Ambassador explained on the historical ties between the peoples of Ghana and Cuba, which started in 1959 during the meeting held between the founder of the Ghanaian Republic, Kwame Nkrumah and the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro, historic leader of the Cuban Revolution. The Ambassador also emphasized on the social programs of the Cuban Revolution and how the Ghanaian people received the Cuban solidarity. He explained to the GUPS leaders that more than three thousands of youth Ghanaian have been trained in Cuba as doctors, engineers, teachers and others fields of the Science.
Also the Ghanaian student executive was updated on the unjust blockade that still exercises the United States against the Cuban people, but the Cuban diplomat clarify that this situation will not stop the Cuban solidarity actions toward the world.
The National President of the GUPS thanked the Cuban Ambassador for the possibility to discuss in frankly environment. He exposed the role of his organization in the framework of the Ghanaian students’ organizations and reaffirmed the interest of the GUPS to collaborate with their counterparts in Cuba. The Ghanaian student leaders expressed the necessity to increase in Ghana the teaching of Spanish Language and the presence of Cuban students and Cuban professors in the University of Ghana. The leaders of GUPS ratified the solidarity and the friendship with Cuba.
The National President of GUPS was accompanied by Mr. Freeman Aime Bediako, secretary for International Relations; Mr. Abraham Maliki, Protocol and Ms. Naa Ofeibea Tetteh, female coordinator (acting). By the Cuban Embassy, there was also, the First Secretary, Julio César Sánchez.
