Ghanaian Foreign Minister confirms his country's position of rejection the blockade imposed against Cuba

Hon. Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor-Botchwey (MP), Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana, received at her offices Mr. Pedro Luis Despaigne González, Cuban ambassador accredited to the African country.

On the occasion, the parties ratified the interest in strengthening bilateral ties in the year of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The Minister referred to the official visits to Cuba in 2019 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, which together with the one made by her in 2018, constitute reliable expressions of the solidification of historical ties between both nations.

The Antillean diplomat updated the Ghanaian minister on the negative impact of the recent measures taken by the current government of the United States of America, aimed at intensifying the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, and thanked Ghana's traditional support for Cuban resolution on the need to put an end to that genocidal policy.

The Ghanaian minister ratified Ghana's historical position of rejection of the blockade as part of the strong African Union position on the issue.

Also present at the meeting were Mrs. Florence Akonor and Betty Danso, Director and Deputy Director of the Americas Bureau of that Ministry; meanwhile, the First Secretary, Julio César Sánchez, also participated by the Cuban side.
