Ghanaian graduates in Cuba pay tribute to Fidel Castro

A representation of the Ghanaians who between 1983 and 1988 benefited from the Scholarship Program for African students in the Isle of Youth, paid tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, on the eve of the second anniversary of his physical disappearance.

The commemorative evening was organized by the Association of Ghanaian Graduates in Cuba (ESBECAN), as part of the program to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the arrival in Cuba of the so-called Group of 88, and in which representatives of other years took part.

The speakers of the activity emphasized that they have as elements of cohesion the love of the country that welcomed them as daughters and sons, and the eternal gratitude to the Commander in Chief, and whom they consider as their second father.

The Ambassador, Pedro Luis Despaigne González, thanked the ESBECAN members for their solidarity with the Cuban people, and ratified the commitment to maintain the legacy of Fidel in Africa, and in Ghana in particular, which in the same year of the triumph of the Revolution established diplomatic relations with Cuba, for which in 2019 it will reach its 60th Anniversary.

In the tribute, Mrs. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kpormego, who studied at the Isla de la Juventud, completed the studies of Veterinary Medicine, in Cuba in 1999; He was a member of the Parliament of Ghana, and a former Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture. She is currently the National Organizer of the women's section of Ghana's main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The staff of the Embassy of Cuba was also at the event.
