The Embassy of Cuba attended as an invited at the opening of the commemorative day on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the arrival to Cuba of a group of young Ghanaians. Under the motto “The role of graduates in Cuba in the socio-economic development of Ghana”, and the recognition of the legacy of the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, the Event held place at the Complex T-Havana Park.
Thirty years later, graduates in Cuba recalled moments of their travel, stay and studies in an act where expressions of gratitude predominated toward the Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and the former President Jerry Rawlings for the shared vision of the importance of preparation of Ghana's human capital.
The act, started with the graduates intoning the notes of the national anthems of Ghana and Cuba. During their speeches: Mr. Phillip B. Arthur, Chairman of the Committee responsible for that celebration, and Mrs. Ruth Adjei, Vice-President of the Graduate Association (ESBECAN), agreed on the positive impact for their personal and professional lives of their studies in Cuba.
Mr. Kojo Hazel, former National Coordinator, Isle of Youth Program, recalled his meetings in Havana and in the Isle of Youth with the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and with the Commander Jorge Risquet, and called on the graduates to remain cohesive around ESBECAN.
The Chargé d'Affaires a.i., Julio César Sánchez Martínez, thanked the members of ESBECAN for their love and solidarity with Cuba, reiterating that the 30 years of the group of 87 are an expression of the roots forged in the common history of Africa and Cuba.
