Havana, April 25, 2024. - The Ghanaian Trade Union Congress, TUC, represented their country with a large delegation in the May Day Brigade in Cuba. Before their departure, they agreed to carry, as part of their luggage, over 200 kilograms of medicines which were donated by the Svani Group to the people of Cuba.
In an emotional ceremony held on the morning of Thursday 25 April, the organiser of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign-Ghana, Naa Ayeley Ardayfio, expressed the importance of supporting the island in these difficult times, as the largest of the Antilles is an inspiration for all people and human beings of good will. She also condemned the inhuman blockade imposed by the United States government on Cuba.
In his turn, Puis Yao Owusu, representative of the Maritime Dockworkers Union in the port of Tema, recalled his time in Cuba as a student, saying: "Cuba shaped me, made me the man I am, beyond the quality education I received, I received love, and I developed a high level of patriotism. How not to help Cuba, how not to bypass, with this small contribution, the impact of the blockade. My companions and I had no right to hesitate. Without thinking it twice we took as many medicines as we could carry and brought them here so that at least some needy people could use them”.
The Quisicuaba Project received the donation from its Responsible for International Cooperation, Gladys Ayllón Oliva, who expressed her gratitude on behalf of those who will benefit from the medicines and explained the details of the project they are developing.
These demonstrations of solidarity show how strong are the ties that bind the peoples of Cuba and Ghana. This December marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states, and solidarity has always been the mainstay of the achievements made.
