The government of Grenada has confirmed its contribution of US$500,000 as part of the CARICOM-approved initiative to support the Cuban people amidst their current difficulties.
During the announcement, Grenadian Minister of Education David Andrew emphasized that this funding will be used to purchase humanitarian supplies. “Although our government, our population, and our economy are small, we can support our brothers and sisters in Cuba with humanitarian aid at this time,” Minister Andrew stated.
Grenada maintains a firm stance of solidarity with Cuba, expressed both politically and through practical support during times of crisis. This gesture adds to a tradition of mutual support that has characterized bilateral relations for 47 years and reaffirms the depth of the ties between the two nations.
As Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossio recently explained, the situation facing Cuba is not a consequence of natural disasters or internal conflicts, but rather of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States. This policy, which has lasted for more than six decades, is the main cause of the shortages affecting the Cuban people and explains the importance of international solidarity in alleviating its effects.
