Kingston, Jamaica, 15 September 2021. The Cuban Charge d' Affaires (a.i.) in Jamaica, Mr. Ulises Calvo Borges, symbolically received today a donation of medical supplies from the government of Jamaica to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic in the Greatest Island in the Antilles. The symbolic delivery was made at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
During the ceremony, Jamaica’s Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson Smith explained that the donation, which includes medicaments, disposable face masks, syringes, inhalers and other pharmaceutical items, is part of a broader response of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in solidarity with Cuba. The Minister acknowledged Cuba’s assistance to Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean in key sectors such as health and education, and pointed out that "this donation is further testament to the ongoing collaboration and partnership between Jamaica and Cuba at all levels."
For his part, the Cuban Charge d' Affaires thanked the Jamaican government and people for the solidarity offering, as well as the good offices of the Foreign Ministry of Jamaica to guarantee joint sending of this donation and another organized by Jamaican friends, Cuban residents and members of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Jamaica. The cargo should arrive in Cuba in the next few days.
" In unity lies strength," stated the Cuban diplomat. “We will continue to stand by our Caribbean brothers and sisters, because this is a battle we can only expect to win if we fight it together. With one love and one heart we will fight for life and we will prevail.”
