St George, January 28. The reception for the 66th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution and the 172nd anniversary of the birth of José Martí took place at the headquarters of the Cuban Embassy in Grenada.
The night was rainy but full of commitment from all the friends of Cuba who graced the celebration. The president of the Graduates Committee, Dr. Malachy Dottin, led the event, which began with the presentation of a floral offering to José Martí by the Governor General of Grenada, Dame Cecile le Grenade.
The Cuban Ambassador, Ivette Martínez Leyva, highlighted in her speech the significance of both historical dates and said that without Martí's guidance, the Revolution would have been more difficult for Fidel, since it was thanks to his principles, his strategies, and suggestions that there was a Moncada, an armed struggle, and a Triumph. She commented on the current challenges facing the country and stressed that the motto of the 66th Anniversary, “With the Strength of Unity,” reflects the conviction and resistance of the Cuban people in the defense of the Revolution, in the face of the Blockade and other imperial threats. Finally, she thanked the Grenadian government for its timely gesture of aid to Cuba, which benefited Cuban families and the country's electrical energy system.
For his part, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell shared with those present his admiration for the Cuban government and people, saying that, as President pro tempore of CARICOM, he had promoted initiatives to support the island and had denounced, from a regional forum, the economic damage caused by the Blockade and the inclusion of Cuba on the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism. He thanked the Cubans who provide services in Grenada and who raise the quality of public health, while reiterating his willingness to continue deepening the bilateral relationship.
The event concluded with a toast wishing a long life to the Cuban Revolution and the attachment to the legacy of José Martí, which also included the participation of Foreign Minister Joseph Andall, Ministers, Parliamentarians, Permanent Secretaries, Businessmen, members of the movement and of solidarity with Cuba and Cubans residents in Granada.
