Recent information noted that, until the end of March, the Greek initiative to award the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize to the internationalist contingent of Cuban doctors Henry Reeve, exceeded 230,000 endorsement signatures.
However, the number - a quantitative expression of a greater recognition, that of the peoples - is even better read in the gratitude of the thousands of patients who saved their lives at the hands of the solidarity doctors.
Since the first group left, on March 17 of last year, to contribute to the fight against COVID-19 in the world, none of those who have integrated those 57 embassies for life had the idea of be included among the proposals that the Norwegian Nobel Committee would consider.
Those who are grateful, who suffered from the disease and were treated without regard of any kind, by our doctors, nurses, specialists, technicians, advocate the application. Of this, of course, those who crush, with the unbearable weight of selfishness and financial accounts, that elemental human right that is health will not understand.
The number of signatures for the Nobel is a large number, as is the noble gesture of the Greek Velissarios Kossivakis and his team, who displayed the beautiful initiative. But he knows, because he reminded Che, that lavishing health means "providing public service to as many people as possible, establishing a preventive medicine program (...) and directing the creative possibilities of all professional medical and health personnel towards the duties of social medicine. He also knows, because he knows Cuba, that there is no greater prize for these doctors than to save a life.
Doctors know about this legacy, as Fidel told them, looking them in the eye: «The most important thing will have to be your total consecration to the most noble and humane of the trades: saving lives and preserving health. More than doctors, they will be jealous guardians of what is most precious to the human being; apostles and creators of a more human world.
