For greater trade between Indonesia and Cuba

Jakarta, January 16th- The Ambassador of Cuba in Indonesia, Tania Velázquez López, was received in courtesy call, by the Director of Bilateral Negotiations on the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia, Ms. Ni Made Ayu Marthini, occasion in which they outlined joint actions for the promotion of trade and the investment between both countries.

The Cuban diplomat offered a comprehensive update of Cuban regulations regarding foreign investment and the possibilities that are open for Indonesian companies to establish themselves in the Mariel Special Development Zone. In other hand, Ms. Ayu Marthini recognized the untapped potential for bilateral trade between Cuba and Indonesia and reaffirmed her willingness to continue working towards raising economic ties between our countries, at the same level as politicians.

The parties recognized the usefulness of increasing the exchange of delegations within the framework of the different commercial events held in both countries. At the same time, they agreed to increase the socialization of useful information on trade and investment in Cuba among Indonesian companies in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, the furniture industry, the pharmaceutical sector and biotechnology, which are emerging with greater possibilities at short and medium term.

In November 2019, a delegation of Indonesian companies headed by Ms. Shinta Widjaja, vice president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Indonesia (KADIM) participated in the XXXVII Havana International Fair. Previously, a representation of Grupo Labiofam S.A participated in the first Indonesia-Latin America Business Forum (INA-LAC) held in October 2019 in Tangerang, Indonesia.

Indonesia and Cuba arrive at the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. In this context, interlocutors from both countries have expressed their willingness to strengthen the links between our nations with a focus on commercial economic cooperation.

The Ambassador was accompanied by the Third Secretary of the Mission, Bryan Gual.
