The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) asked the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba to support the solidarity call to award the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for the Henry Reeve brigade.
A statement by the partisan group explains Cuba's humanist attitude to assist in the control of the pandemic by COVID-19: "Specifically, Cuba sent to 38 countries around the world more than 45 contingents belonging to the Henry Reeve brigade, specializing in dealing with natural disasters and severe pandemics, totaling 3,772 doctors, nurses and other health personnel. These scientists have cared for and healed more than 250,000 people infected by COVID-19, and saved the lives of more than 8,000 patients," the text says.
It specifies that this type of action is carried out in defiance of the coercive measures that have escalated in recent years by the administration of the White House. In addition, aid comes from a third-world country facing economic problems.
"The medical staff of this international brigade continue their long tradition of voluntary, supportive and selfless offer to provide assistance in the event of major natural disasters and pandemics. They reached more than 3.5 million people worldwide in their work. Characteristic is the period 2014-2015, when more than 400 doctors and nurses contributed to the fight of the deadly Ebola in West Africa, this being the largest medical operation ever given in countries such as Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia", highlights the statement of the KKE.
In order to multiply the campaign for the award of the Nobel to The Contigate Henry Reeve, the text requires the support of all political and governmental forces in Greece, and is signed by Deputy Giannis Gkiokas.
Similar criterion is endorsed by another text written by Velissarios Kossivakis, coordinator of the campaign in Greece, which says: "We thank not only our people who have solidarized with this noble cause, but all those who, like us, have closed ranks and fought all over the world so that, in this way, Cuba may be done some justice , although symbolic, and the voices of the peoples who demand that the voice of truth be heard, above the defamations of the great means that serve the "planetarquists" and their interests, to the detriment of the peoples".
