Grenada PM Pledges unwavering support for the lifting of US the embargo against Cuba

Prime Minister Dicken Mitchell, in welcoming Cuba’s President, Miguel Diaz-Canel to the shores of Grenada,reaffirmedthis country’s unwavering support and continued the call for the removal of the United States’ continued embargo against the Government and people of Cuba, and the removal of Cuba from the list of countries dubbed sponsors of state terrorism.

During a brief session with members of the media at Parliament Building on Wednesday,

Mitchell noted that the Grenada position is not onemade in isolation but a stand taken by CARRICOM and was reiterated during the recent CARICOM/Cuba Summit held in Barbados.

   Prior to engraining members of the media, the high-level Cuban delegation met with members of the Dickon Mitchell-led government and according to Mitchell,the discussion touched on, among other things, collaborating their efforts on several fronts. Some of the areas discussed are, healthcare agriculture, infrastructure, education,agriculture, environment, climate change and the need to build climate resilient societies in the future.

He noted that a Grenada delegation will soon be travelling to Cuba to further strengthen those discussions. He went further to say that during the two-hour discussion, both parties pledged to work towards strengthening their bonds of friendship.

 In his maiden address to the Government and people of Grenada, the Cuban President thanked the Government and people of Grenada for their hospitality extended to him and his delegation. The Cuban President noted that his visit speaks to the value his country places on the friendship that exists between the two countries and by extension the Caribbean. He noted that from the discussion among the leaders, it’s clear that both parties are ready for that deeper bond of friendship and solidarity. The president said his country is ready to commit itself to what was agreed to in those discussions with the Grenadian prime minister. It’s his deep belief that the implementation of these projects will represent a marked improvement in the relationship between Grenada and Cuba.

 The president took the opportunity to applaud the Grenadian leader for his firm stance against the continued unjust United States embargo against the Government and people of Cuba. He also commends the prime minister for his pronouncement at the UN General Assembly, condemning the inclusion of Cuba amongst a list of countries dubbed sponsors of stateterrorism. Based on his stand, the Cuban president said, an invitation is extended to the Grenadian prime minister to visit Cuba at any time convenient to him.

 He further assured the Grenadian people that they can always depend on Cuba.

 The high-level delegation also met with Grenadian friends of Cuba at the Grenada Trade Centre in the South of the island.
