The young Cuban jurist Lizandra Linares Romero, residing in Grenada, spoke out about the effects of the blockade as part of the traditional series of denunciation activities held on the last weekends of each month in different countries around the world, this time within the commemoration in Grenada of the Day of National Rebellion.
In her message, Linares reminded that the blockade is not an abstract slogan, but a reality that strikes at the daily lives of Cuban families. She pointed out that shortages in hospitals, blackouts interrupting children’s studies, and postponed dreams are the direct consequence of a policy that punishes a people for thinking differently.
In this regard, the jurist stated: “The blockade is not only felt in figures or reports; it is felt on the skin. It is felt when a medicine is missing, when a mother waits for a call that never comes, when a creative young person cannot access a digital tool to learn or to create.”
Despite these difficulties, she emphasized that Cuba has maintained its vocation of solidarity. She recalled that the island has sent doctors where others sent soldiers, shared vaccines and knowledge, and extended a hand to those who suffer, demonstrating that justice and dignity are not negotiable.
Linares stressed that, from Grenada, Cubans — including the youth — raise their voices not to ask for compassion, but for respect. She explained that the cry of her people is to live without punishment or threats, and that the blockade is not a political measure but a human injustice that must be denounced in every possible forum.
“Cuba’s resistance is also hope,” said the jurist, who concluded: “Every gesture of support, every word of solidarity, every embrace that crosses the sea becomes a recharge of optimism and will to overcome challenges. Because to resist is not only to survive: it is to keep believing in hope, even when imperialism would also try to blockade it.”
