The Grenadian Voice reproduced the interview granted by Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister Josefina Vidal Ferreiro to the Mexican daily La Jornada. The Grenadian outlet highlighted that, according to the Cuban official, there is indeed a direct dialogue channel with the United States, though without significant results, as each approach is followed by new sanctions against the Island.
In her statements, Vidal emphasized that Cuba is willing to discuss any issue with Washington, except those that compromise its independence, sovereignty, and internal order. She noted that the seriousness of the process is called into question when, after each meeting, the U.S. government responds with coercive measures that directly affect the Cuban people.
The interview also addressed Cuba’s ongoing economic transformations. In this regard, the Deputy Foreign Minister clarified that the 176 announced measures do not alter the socialist character of the State. Vidal explained that control over strategic resources will remain in the hands of the people and that income redistribution will be guaranteed through fiscal policy, reaffirming the priority of public services such as health and education.
