Grenadian Party Leader calls for Caribbean unity in support of Cuba

Grenadian leader Arley Gill, deputy political leader of the Democratic People’s Movement (DPM), emphasized that the critical situation faced by the Cuban people stems from the tightening of sanctions and hostile measures imposed by the United States. His remarks were delivered during an address at the most recent congress of his political organization.

Gill explained that U.S. aggressiveness has created a scenario of energy and socio-economic crisis on the Island, with direct consequences for the daily lives of millions of Cubans. He pointed out that these actions exemplify how major powers use economic strength as a tool of political coercion against small and developing nations.

The DPM leader insisted that solidarity with Cuba is not merely a gesture of support, but a moral and political obligation for the peoples of the Caribbean. He recalled that Cuba has been a constant partner in areas such as health, education, and culture, and that abandoning the Island at this moment would run counter to the Caribbean tradition of unity and resistance in the face of external pressures.

Gill urged governments and social movements in the region to maintain a firm stance of support for Cuba. In his view, sustaining solidarity with the largest of the Antilles also means defending the very essence of Caribbean identity.
