The Senate of Grenada was the setting for a statement of support for Cuba by Senator Andrés Lewis, who addressed the legislative session to denounce the effects of the U.S. blockade and to reaffirm his country’s solidarity with the Island.
Lewis emphasized that the coercive measures imposed against Cuba have had a severe impact on the daily life of its people. Such provisions, he affirmed, restrict access to essential resources and affect strategic sectors such as health and energy.
For Lewis, the siege against Cuba cannot be analyzed in isolation. In his view, it is part of the current geopolitical dynamics in Latin America and the Caribbean, marked by attempts at external pressure and by the need of the region’s peoples to defend their sovereignty.
The intervention of the Grenadian senator reinforces Grenada’s position of solidarity with Cuba and projects a clear political message at the regional level. In this way, his statements in the Senate are inscribed in the Caribbean tradition of support for the Island.
