Grenadian voices call to support Cuba against the blockade

Within the framework of the official reception marking the 47th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Grenada, a special boost was given yesterday to the solidarity campaign with the Caribbean nation, announced the previous week. On this occasion, the initiative was presented by Dr. Malachy Dottin, coordinator of the Committee of Grenadian Graduates in Cuba, and Ruggles Ferguson, a renowned local jurist, who emphasized the need for this movement to reach national dimensions.

In their remarks, both underlined that the campaign seeks to mobilize medical, energy, and other resources to support Cuba in the face of growing difficulties resulting from the economic blockade imposed by the United States. They stressed that Grenadian solidarity should be expressed across all sectors of society—from unions and religious organizations to local communities and cultural circles—with activities scheduled from April 14 to May 14.

The promoters insisted that every person in Grenada will have the opportunity to contribute, whether through collections, breakfasts, lunches, dinners, or concerts, and recalled that Cuba has provided invaluable support to Grenada over nearly five decades in areas such as health, education, and infrastructure. In this sense, they emphasized that now is the time to return that solidarity in what they describe as “the most difficult hour” for the Cuban people.

The organizers of the campaign reminded that Cuba’s current situation is marked by Washington’s hostile policy, which for more than six decades has maintained an economic, commercial, and financial blockade—now aggravated by measures that have restricted access to fuel and essential resources. These restrictions have led to power outages, food shortages, and the suspension of critical surgeries, directly affecting the population, including children and vulnerable patients.
