Sri Lanka, November 25, 2020. - With the launch, this morning, of the online signature campaign in support to nominate Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics, the Group Friends of Cuba in Sri Lanka pays a very special tribute to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of his physical disappearance.
The online ceremony began with the words of Dr. Tissa Vitarana, Member of Parliament and Vice President of the Cuba-Sri Lanka Friendship Association, who highlighted the commendable and humanistic work carried out by the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade since its creation by the Commander in Chief in September 2005. He called to join this movement in support of the nomination of this Medical Brigade for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
Leaders of political parties, representatives of the Association of Graduates in Cuba, of the Buddhist clergy and prominent university professors, among others, who highlighted the work of the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade in various countries of Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. They also rejected the blockade imposed against our country by the US government.
The Ambassador of Cuba, Juana Elena Ramos Rodríguez, thanked the members of the Friends of Cuba Group for this initiative and their important support for the nomination of the Medical Contingent “Henry Reeve” to the Nobel Peace Prize, 2021 as well as denouncing the attempts of some countries to discredit the humanistic work of the Cuban medical collaboration.
The activity concluded with the interpretation by the Sri Lankan guitarist Mohamed Iqbal of a song of his authorship dedicated to the “Henry Reeve” Medical Brigade.
