Gulf Cooperation Council expresses interest in the Caribbean region

Riyadh, August 28th - Ambassador Vladimir Gonzalez held an interesting and fruitful meeting with the Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), Dr. Abdel Aziz Abu Hamad Al-Uwaisheg. The director of the Americas Department, Mr. Adel Abdulaziz Al-Sanad, and other officials from the Section for Political Affairs and Strategic Dialogue in that regional body also participated in the meeting.

On the occasion, the Cuban diplomat officially informed Dr. Al-Uwaisheg about the acceptance of the interview requested for the Secretary General of the GCC, Dr. Jasem Mohamed Al-Buwaidi, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, at the sideline of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will be inaugurated on September 5th, 2023.

On the other hand, the meeting confirmed CCG’s interest on a rapprochement with the Caribbean region, particularly with the countries part of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), with the purpose of establishing cooperation relationships, focus on the economic and commercial spheres, but they could also be extended to the culture and tourism.

Dr. Al-Uwaisheg was satisfied with the recent visit made by a delegation from the Secretariat General of the GCC to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, to hold a meeting with its counterpart in the ACS and to initiate working and cooperation ties, in whose materialization Cuba played an important role as an active member of the Caribbean association.

The GCC is a regional organization founded on May 25th, 1981, in Abu Dhabi and is made up of six nations from the so-called Middle East: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain. (EmbaCuba Arabia Saudita)
