Guyana celebrates the Liberation Day of Africa

Georgetown, May 28, 2019. The Ambassador of Cuba, Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro and the official Mayra Caridad León Pérez, participated in the ceremony of the Day of the Liberation of Africa, invited by the Organization for the Victory of the People of Guyana (OVP ), who also dedicated the commemoration to the revolution of Cuba and Venezuela.

This event was chaired by Mr. Gerald Perreira, President of the Organization for the Victory of the People, and Mr. Lincoln Lewis, General Secretary of the Congress of Trade Unions of Guyana (GTUC). Both the personalities and those attending the event highlighted the history of the struggle of the peoples of Africa for their liberation and called for solidarity with the Cuban and Venezuelan revolution.

The Ambassador highlighted the meaning of Africa for the Cuban people, a continent that, according to the historical leader of the revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, "we have a historical debt." He recalled the efforts of the African peoples to achieve their independence and Cuba's support for them, as well as cooperation and internationalism, at this time in several nations of that continent.

The Cuban diplomat repudiated the attempts of the United States to revive the interventionist Monroe Doctrine and the constant siege of the Bolivarian revolution in Venezuela, including the military threats of intervention to that sister country. In this regard, the Ambassador reiterated the attachment to the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace. He also thanked the solidarity of the people and the Government of Guyana to condemn the economic, financial and commercial blockade that the United States unjustly maintains against Cuba.
